Christian Counseling

For those who request it in Moscow, Idaho

When you think of Christian counseling, what comes to mind?

Depending on experiences and beliefs, people have wide-ranging impressions about what Christian counseling is or is supposed to be like.

You might have been tremendously helped in the past by a pastoral or Christian counselor, or you might have been hurt. The counselor might have been a trained lay person, a pastor, or a professional counselor, and they might or might not have been gifted or well trained. So, experiences vary. A lot.

How do I approach working with my clients who want to focus on Christian counseling?

First, like any good counselor, I’m going to start with a lot of curiosity and get to know YOU.

  • Who are you, and what brings you in?
  • When you look at your life through the lens of faith, what do you see?
  • When you relate to God, how do you see Him?
  • What do you believe about Him, and what do you think He believes about you?

When hard things happen—and they will—who you believe God is makes all the difference in how you walk through it. What you believe about God has huge implications for what you believe about yourself, others, and the events in your life.

Every Christian believer struggles at some point.

We live in a fallen world. Jesus himself told us that in this world, we will have trouble. In fact, if you’re a scripture reading believer, you know that our journey through life on this earth is described as a race, a battle, and a climb, complete with an enemy who wants to keep us from succeeding. One of the chief ways he does this is to sow doubt about who God is and who God says we are.

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is God’s truth about who He is and who we are in Him.

The good news is that the Holy Spirit is ready to help every believer stand in that truth.

Looking for a Christian counselor in the Moscow or Pullman area?

Work with a professional counselor who shares your faith in Jesus.

I have certainly been in your shoes, hoping to find a really good counselor who honors the desire to keep a godly focus and use methods that are aligned with how God created us.

You might find yourself thinking:

  • I might need professional help, but I want to know my beliefs won’t be dismissed.
  • We know what the Bible says about marriage, so why isn’t our marriage reflecting our faith?
  • I have strong faith, but I’m struggling to change.
  • I believe in God, but I’m way off track, and I need a safe place to sort through coming back to Him.

If you’re thinking about professional counseling, it’s likely that something hard has happened, or perhaps you’re tired of running at half-speed, and you’re ready to receive the life of joy and purpose that is found in following Jesus.

Whether you’re weary, hopeful, or somewhere in between, you are welcome here.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

Relationship is at the heart of faith, and your relationship with God, with others, and with yourself will get skewed unless they are built on a foundation of truth. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” So, for the Christian client (or the questioning client who wants to see what Christian counseling is all about), we’ll base our work in the truth that is God as we find Him in the Bible.

What will Christian counseling with me look like?

It’s a little different for everyone, because I will meet you where you are. I will use all my training and experience as a professional counselor to work with you according to the scriptural truth of who God is and who He says you are.

He is creator of your neurobiology and your spirit. He is the author of healthy relationships and marriage. As the creator of your mind, He is also the healer, and He is the God of restoration and reconciliation. I have trained and served for many years as a professional counselor, and I will bring those skills to our process.

What kind of Christian counseling services do you offer?

In addition to regular weekly, hourly work, I also provide 2-day Christian counseling intensives for both couples and individuals. Intensives are a super way to focus on needed change and accelerate growth. Ask me about intensives when you contact me, and look for new website information in the coming weeks.

You might have a few questions for any Christian counselor.

I’ve been hurt, and I’m a little wary.

I don’t know what you’ve been through, but I can certainly understand having been hurt. We humans hurt each other, and it’s especially discouraging when we experience that pain within the family of believers.

Relational wounds are healed in healthy relationship. A professional counseling relationship can be a safe and confidential place to sort through pain. This is also true if you’re experiencing troubling emotions, like being mad at God. Mature faith is seasoned by an honest process of maintaining relationship with God & others through the storms of life.

Tell me a little more about your faith.

I’m a praying Christian believer who studies the Bible. I believe the written Word of God is exclusive to the Bible and spans Genesis to Revelation, ending there. I worship at a local non-denominational church. The Lord has brought me through a lot of things over the course of my life, and I am so grateful that He never leaves me. If we meet for a free consultation, you are welcome to ask questions. I respect your desire to choose a Christian counselor carefully.

Because I work in Moscow, Idaho I am sometimes asked if I am affiliated with Christ Church. I am not.

What if I’m not a Christian believer?

I’ve been helped in my own life by counselors who both shared my faith and those who didn’t. Perhaps you have, too. If we work together, I will meet you where you are, and I’ll use my training respectfully, and with compassion, to help you find growth for yourself and your relationships.

I’ve worked with hundreds of clients since 2010, those who were Christians and those who are not. Life is messy for all of us, and Christian or not, most people are looking to feel more comfortable in their own skin and build healthy relationships. I love helping people do that!
