Couples Counseling in Idaho & Washington

(In-Person + Online Follow-Ups)

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Idaho and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington.

I help high-functioning, committed couples who feel stuck in repeating conflict cycles—despite insight, effort, or prior therapy—identify and shift the patterns that keep them disconnected.

Many of the couples I work with manage significant professional, leadership, or personal responsibilities, yet find their relationship is where patterns feel hardest to change.

Many couples seek this work following a rupture such as infidelity, where trust has been disrupted and the relationship feels unstable or uncertain.

who this work is for

This work is designed for high-functioning couples experiencing repetitive conflict cycles, emotional disconnection, or betrayal wounds.

This often includes couples who function at a high level in their work or responsibilities, but experience recurring breakdowns in communication, emotional connection, or repair within the relationship.

Common patterns include:

  • Repeating arguments or predictable conflict loops;
  • Emotional withdrawal after conflict (“cold shoulder”);
  • Difficulty repairing after disagreements;
  • Persistent relational disconnection;
  • Life transitions impacting relationship stability.

Many partners describe, “We understand what’s happening, but we still end up back in it.”

This work is also a good fit for partners who:

  • Feel emotionally reactive or shut down in conflict;
  • Tend toward overthinking or self-criticism;
  • Have tried prior couples therapy without lasting change;
  • Want to understand relational patterns, not just communication tools;
  • Life transitions impacting relationship stability.

Some couples reach out at a point where the relationship feels increasingly fragile—after repeated unresolved conflict or a significant rupture—and want structured support before patterns become more entrenched.

Couples Therapy Intensives (2-Day Format)

2-day intensives provide extended, concentrated time to work directly within relational patterns as they emerge.

These are often used following infidelity or significant trust rupture, when couples need focused, contained time to stabilize communication, process the impact, and begin structured repair.

Compared to weekly therapy, intensives allow:

  • Increased real-time work inside relational cycles;
  • More support for emotional regulation during high-stress conversations;
  • Greater in-depth mapping of interaction patterns;
  • Repeated immediate repair and reconnection practice;
  • Faster identification of entrenched dynamics.

when this work is a good fit

This approach is often helpful for couples who want to:

  • Repair emotional disconnection
  • Interrupt recurring relational cycles
  • Improve emotional responsiveness and repair capacity
  • Build long-term relational stability
  • Address high-stress betrayal ruptures

This work is grounded in the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy, which views relationship challenges as predictable phases that emerge over time.

Couples often move through stages such as early idealization, power struggles, and deeper relational integration. Recurring conflict often reflects difficulty navigating these transitions rather than isolated communication problems.

I work with couples who feel stuck in the same arguments or emotional distance, even though they care about the relationship and are trying to improve it.

Together, we identify the repeating patterns that keep you stuck and build new ways of responding so conflict leads to understanding and repair instead of disconnection.

The goal is not to eliminate conflict, but to help you move through it in a way that leads to greater clarity, repair, and connection.

strong match indicators

This work is likely a strong fit if you:

  • Say things like: “We understand the pattern, but we still can’t stop it;”

  • Have tried prior therapy or self-directed work without lasting change;

  • Are both willing to examine your role in the cycle (not just your partner’s);

  • Can stay engaged in difficult conversations with structure and support;

  • Want structured, pattern-focused therapy—not just communication tips or venting;

  • Are used to solving problems effectively in other areas of life, but feel stuck in the relationship;

  • Are navigating a recent rupture (such as infidelity) and want structured support to stabilize and begin repair.

This work is often especially helpful for couples who:

  •  Function at a high level professionally but feel stuck relationally;
  • Manage ongoing pressure, responsibility, or performance demands that impact the relationship;

  • Tend toward overthinking, self-criticism, or emotional shutdown under stress;

  • Value depth, clarity, and practical change—not just insight.

Couples who benefit most are motivated for change, even if progress has felt stuck, and are willing to actively engage in shifting long-standing relational patterns.

when this work is not a good fit

This is not a good fit if you are:

  • Seeking emergency or crisis services
  • Court-mandated to attend therapy
  • Looking for insurance-based counseling
  • Actively pursuing separation without interest in repair
  • Unwilling to engage in joint relational work

This work is not appropriate when there is:

  • Active domestic violence

  • Active suicidality

  • Severe, untreated addiction or mental illness impairing participation

If you are unsure, a consultation can help clarify fit.

How i work

 My approach is relational, structured, and pattern-focused.

In our work together we:

  • Identify repeating relational cycles

  • Map emotional triggers and attachment responses

  • Reduce escalation and withdrawal patterns and create enough stability to work through high-stress or high-impact relational ruptures

  • Build new interaction patterns in real time

 I primarily use the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy and integrate elements of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method within that framework—applying them directly to real-time interaction patterns rather than as standalone techniques.

This approach is particularly effective for couples who are used to thinking and problem-solving at a high level, but find those strategies do not resolve relational patterns.

My training includes:

  • Developmental Model of Couples Therapy (Graduate of The Couples Institute)

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (Externship and Core Skills Plus with Jim Thomas)

  • Gottman Method (Levels 1 & 2)

  • Couples therapy intensives training (with Dr. Ellyn Bader and expert Lori Weisman)

My work is also informed by attachment science and relational neuroscience.
